Preditor Publisher CMS: Technical FAQ
PLATFORM / STACKPreditor is a server-side application that depends upon an application stack commonly referred to was W/LAMP. (Windows/Linux, Apache, mySQL, PHP). Apache (web-server), mySQL (database) and PHP (server-side programming language) can be configured to run on either Windows or Linux, and any flavour of these operating systems (Windows Server 2003, Redhat, CentOS, Ubuntu). In this way, Preditor is entirely platform independent, as by correctly implementing the stack, your Preditor implementation can be installed and migrated as your organisation evolves. PHP and mySQL are a very powerful combination, supported and used by the likes of Yahoo!, Google, Wikipedia, HP, Lufthansa, Deutsche Telekom and NASA amongst others. Please visit www.php.net, www.apache.org and www.mysql.com for further technical information. DEPLOYMENT OPTIONSWe provide two approaches to the deployment of the Preditor suite:Enterprise/Distributed Here, the core Content Manager Module is located on-site at the client’s premises. Staff contribute content and manage reporting and print-publishing requirements within the company network ensuring an always-on environment for work output irrespective of connectivity to the Internet. The remaining modules (Web/Mobile Rendering Engine(s), Online Subscriber Manager and Advertising Server) are deployed on a separate, powerful web-server (or load-balanced cluster, if required), colocated at a reputable Internet Service Provider. These servers communicate with each other, replicating data as required to push content to the web-server and statistical and reporting data back to the Content Manager Module. Remote access to the Content Manager Module can be enabled by opening up access to the internal company network for journalists/staff needing to work away from the office through a suitable VPN solution. SME/Single-server In this case all service modules reside on a web-server (again, co-located at a reputable ISP). Staff work from the office premises over their internet connection with the tools. This has the advantage of reduced complexity and on-site technical capacity, yet provides a slower working environment for the production of work and can be affected by connectivity outages. USER-REQUIREMENTSPrefix Technologies is committed to delivering a complete working environment through the common web-browser. Our rich, AJAX-driven web-applications are accessible securely from any user-machine (windows, Linux, MacOS) using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TECHNICAL ISSUES?In the SME/single-server deployment scenario, Prefix Technologies is able to provide the entire solution including hosting facilities. This then provides single-point accountability for the entire service to the client. In the enterprise/distributed Prefix Technologies prefers to be responsible only for the application layer upwards (Preditor), and requires that the server and web-stack be correctly installed to specification by the client and/or its suppliers. We have specialist infrastructure partners in this regard who we will bring in during the consulting phase to provide solutions and costs to you. SUPPORT, UPDATES AND MAINTENACEA monthly software license, maintenance and support plan is put in place with every Preditor customer. This is an all-in-one monthly fee that encompasses the traditional annual license renewal fee and Service Level Agreement. This monthly service from Prefix Technologies ensures support for all users and immediate upgrades and patches to the software modules procured as soon as they are available at no extra cost. It further includes regular strategy and client service engagements, on-site training and support. |
